A Little Child Shall Lead Them
In creating this piece for a friend, we wanted to portray the peace that can come through God's grace as we come to Him like little children. I photographed my little cousin after asking a friend to design a "millennial" (scriptural term) costume for him. Below is the process of painting the piece. Like all artists' works, there is a story behind the canvas. In this case, I actually took the painting on a Greyhound bus with me from Utah to Montana, where I was to paint with my then-girlfriend and meet her family. I couldn't stop working on the painting, but couldn't miss a chance to visit her when invited! We did end up getting married, and now have children of our own. They teach me daily why Jesus asks us all to be more like little children as we approach the kingdom of heaven. When the animal kingdom's natural conflicts are superseded by God's universal love, I believe it will be because we all follow the lead of kids in humility.
